Dear colleagues,

Propelled by the enthusiasm of the fantastic 2023 meeting in Copenhagen, we have started putting together another great programme for IDEAS 2024, further developing ideas of how to foster interdisciplinary teamwork for the best possible outcomes in aortic treatment.

The IDEAS 2024 sessions will again cover a wide range of formats, providing the ideal setting for each topic at hand. Technical issues will be thoroughly scrutinized in focus sessions, case-based discussions will provide a more practice-based learning opportunity, and a video learning session will give attendees the chance to not only hear but also view tips and tricks from some of the best interventionalists in the field. In the always popular expert round table format, treatment options in acute AAA unsuitable for standard EVAR will be discussed. This will be especially interesting, as new techniques such as laser fenestration are now available. In another round table session, type II endoleaks will be scrutinized again offering a lively discussion between vascular surgeons and interventional radiologists with the active participation of the audience.

The focus session covering issues in TAAA stent-grafting is another session to look forward to, as the importance of correct indication is too often underestimated. From the surgery side, evolving strategies of SCI prevention and an update on bridging stent grafts will be discussed. This will be followed by an analysis of how to choose between outer and inner branches, and whether steerable sheaths obviate the need for an upper approach in branches.

Another session no attendee should miss is the analysis of post-dissection aneurysms, as both interventional radiologists as well as vascular surgeons should be aware of the techniques that can potentially prevent them, as well as the newest ancillary techniques in the treatment of these complex diseases. The hot topic symposium will highlight actual issues, including staff radiation safety, day-care EVAR, and gender-related outcomes.

Other must-see sessions include the case presentations by experts titled “My worst endovascular case” and “Most amazing bail-outs”. These sessions guarantee awful complications with lots of surprises, and an invaluable learning opportunity for attendees who will gain tips and tricks on how to get out of such tricky situations.

In addition to the planned lectures and discussions, IDEAS 2024 will offer practical courses on FEVAR, BEVAR off-the-shelf solutions, standard EVAR, and iliac-branched solutions. In these interactive workshops, expert faculty will guide attendees while they gain hands-on experience on simulators or devices. A great opportunity to try out new techniques and learn about the latest equipment updates.

We very much look forward to seeing you all in Lisbon – to learn, discuss, and of course to catch up between sessions!
