Copenhagen is known for its vibrant food scene, offering everything from modern Nordic cuisine and relaxed local favourites to international restaurants and classic Danish bites. Looking for a quick lunch between sessions, a casual dinner with colleagues, or a memorable evening out during CIRSE 2026? The city has plenty to offer.
Dining in Copenhagen
For those who want to experience a true Copenhagen classic, Local Host Committee member Dr. Joerg Geisler recommends keeping it simple with a Danish hot dog. For a gourmet organic version, he suggests visiting DØP, located near the Round Tower. He also notes that if “you’re a foodie, Torvehallerne is just a short walk north,” making the popular food market a great stop for anyone wanting to explore different flavours in one place.
For dinner, Dr. Geisler also recommends Cofoco, a restaurant group with around 20 different restaurants across Copenhagen, each specialising in a different cuisine, from French and Italian to Nordic and beyond. As he explains, “the food and wine pairings are always spot on,” making it a strong choice for both small groups and larger gatherings, as long as you reserve early.
If you are in the mood for Italian food, Prof. Lars Lönn recommends Pizzeria La Fiorita, describing it as “a very authentic and slightly hidden Italian place” that is popular with Italians themselves and has been serving traditional wood-fired pizzas since 1992.
For visitors looking to try modern Danish cuisine, Dr. Olle Haller recommends Vækst in Sankt Peders Stræde, calling it “an exciting restaurant with modern Danish food in a nice atmosphere.”
If you’re looking for something different, Local Host Committee member Dr. Bharadwaz recommends ARK for vegetarian and vegan fine dining, while Govinda is an excellent option for a more casual vegetarian meal or takeaway. Those hoping to experience one of the world’s most celebrated restaurants may also want to try Noma, although Dr. Bharadwaz notes that it often has a very long waiting list. If reservations aren’t available, he recommends La Rocca as another excellent dining option.
For a more casual option, Dr. Ruben Juhl Jensen suggests Halifax, noting that “they only make burgers, but they are quite good.” This makes it a simple and reliable choice for a relaxed meal after a busy congress day.
Finally, Local Host Committee member Dr. Mäntylä recommends Marv & Ben for its modern Nordic cuisine in a cosy atmosphere and Pluto, a lively restaurant known for its excellent food and vibrant setting.
From traditional hot dogs and food markets to modern Danish cuisine, Italian pizza, and relaxed burger spots, Copenhagen offers plenty of ways to enjoy the city through its food. Make sure to book early for popular dinner spots, especially if you are planning to dine with a larger group during CIRSE 2026.
